Hello, my name is Jennifer Clegg and I am the volunteer coordinator for the Westvale Community Association. Throughout the coming year I will be highlighting various volunteer opportunities within our community and different types of volunteers. The dictionary definition of volunteer reads ”a person who offers or performs a voluntary service, especially a public service.” The main concept in this definition is that through ”free will“ volunteers choose what to do; this is not always the case with the Student Volunteer who is required to perform 40 hours of community service in order to graduate. This group of individuals is being “voluntold”. Some students “just get it over with“ and that is OK. Others will use this opportunity to develop new skills, pursue interests, explore career choices or obtain something great for their resume. As a student whatever your reason is, the Westvale Community Association may be able to help you obtain your 40 hours. If you are interested in receiving information regarding volunteering within your own community contact me at

Volunteers are needed to organize the 3rd annual Westvale International Family Day, tentatively scheduled for February 20th. Last year’s event was a great event, with tasty food and families from around the world. This year, you can make the event your own, adding or changing as you see fit. We have contacts and volunteers to help, we just need a coordinator. Email
